In the few years I’ve had over 600 live webinars and now I am going to share with you how you can make your first webinar and make money, even without selling anything on the live webinar – yes, it is actually possible!
But let’s start from the beginning.
What is a webinar?
A webinar is a broadcast where you transfer knowledge to the people who attend. The most common format you probably know is the webinar where you see a slideshow and hear the voice of the presenter as the slides are moving forward.
Is webinar right for you?
Yes, Yes and another BIG YES!
No matter in what niche you are, or what your business is all about, webinar is right for you and your business. Until this day, I have never came across with a niche that webinar is not the right thing to do:
- From Food & Cooking
- Dancing (Yes even dancing!!!)
- Any hobby
The fact is I can keep on going with this list a lifetime… like I said, you can do it about anything and about any niche or topic you want.

The internet has completely changed the world – There are no more borders and barriers where you can reach and help anyone, no matter where they are in the world.

You can interact with your audience on a daily basis with video, audio, text but the most powerful way to deliver your value to your audience is by having an actual interaction between you and your audience. Webinars allow you do that while you get instant feedback from your audience on live webinars.

The fact is that in order to make a successful webinar, you don’t need to be a ‘techie’ person nor you need any special technology equipment.
I will outline below in details what tools you need to have.
No Special Speaking Skills
Anyone can go on a webinar and speak, there is no special speaking skills you need. If you craft yourself a great slideshow presentation and prepare yourself right, you will be able to make your first webinar right now.
Will your next webinar be better than the first one? Yes! But think about it, isn’t everything you do in your live today (even if you’ve made it a million times before), you will do better tomorrow?… we are improving every day and it is a process. Embrace it, grow and have fun!
Record, Replay & Automate
Webinars can and should be recorded. There are 2 great reasons to do so:
The first reason is that you can utilize the same webinar and send your audience a replay of the webinar and even automate the process where there is an automated webinar running 24/7 for you.
The second reason is for your improvement process. I always recommend for you to watch your webinar recording in the following 24 to 48 hours, write yourself note, where the webinar can be improved (as this is all about delivering the best value you can).

How Do You Make Money With Webinars?
Selling Your Products & Services (Free Webinars)
This is probably the most common way (but as you can already see, not the only way) to make money on webinars.
You bring your audience to your webinar, give great value and towards the end you offer them to continue getting value from you and offer them a real special offer to join you by buying your products and services.
Selling Tickets To The Webinar (Paid Webinars)
While selling tickets to participate in a webinar (also called paid webinar) is not very common, it is a highly powerful way to new clients on board and generate high revenues.
Now the selling of the tickets is just the first step as during the webinar, you’re also going to sell your products & services.
By selling tickets to be on your webinar, you are actually bringing to the webinar the most serious potential clients and the fact they’ve paid to be on the webinar, proves that they are and they are more likely to buy your product or service.
Now you probably thinking, why anyone would buy his way to participate in a webinar, after all, almost all webinars are for free and that is a great question.
This income model is not for a simple webinar but for what we call online training. Usually it is a 2 to 3 hours of online training and you deliver much more value than a regular webinar which is typically for about one hour.
The legendary Chet Holmes has joint forces with Tony Robbins and they’ve had a webinar together for businesses that they’ve sold tickets for with a big promise that if at the end of the webinar training they didn’t deliver 10x the value of the ticket they’ve paid, they will refund their money.
By delivering high value, they were able to get high value clients with no requests for refunds.
While I would definitely advise you to start with a free webinar, I want you to remember this model as in the future it would totally make sense for you to create a paid webinar training.
Selling Nothing On Your Webinar (Free Webinars)
Now we’re talking about making money by selling nothing on a webinar – Yes, it is possibly.
I’m sure this probably caught your eyes and many don’t really know this is possible.
The fact is that many don’t really think about it, doesn’t mean it can’t be done. It is probably not a good for everyone, but you should know it and see how you can make it work for your niche, your audience and your business.
To best explain how it works, I will share this story about one of our clients that owns a company that is implementing CRM systems (customer relation management) incorporates that by utilizing this no selling free webinar model was able to more than triple his business in just 4 months.
The CRM systems are very complex and new features and sub-systems are created every month.
Together with him we’ve created a monthly webinar. In these monthly webinars he is showing the new features and sub-systems and explaining how their businesses and companies can benefit from utilizing them.
He invites to his monthly webinar both current and potential clients.
Every time he finishes a webinar, he gets at least 2-3 calls from webinars participants that want him to help him implement these new systems in their operation. Each project is worth between thousands to tens of thousands of dollars – big money!
A webinar is an event and like any other event, you can sell sponsorships to companies and businesses who target the same audience you are and want the benefit of reaching them fast.
There are 2 things you need to remember when it comes to selling sponsorships to your webinar:
1) Take sponsors only it makes sense. Meaning they are not your competitors and do not conflict with what you do. One of the webinars we have is how to make money using webinars. We can certainly take sponsors from companies that are selling webinars applications.
2) Sponsors are coming when you either have big audience (meaning you have hundreds of attendees for your webinar) or if it is a very targeted small, high-end and profitable niche that it makes sense to sponsor, even if you have just a few tens of attnedess.
Tools You Need To Make A Webinar
While you can do a webinar with smart devices such as smartphones and tablets, I would recommend to make webinars with a computer. It is the best practice and you should follow it.
You need to have a good internet connection. The best way to know if your connection is ok or you need to improve it, is to test it. Make a demo webinar, have a few friends or family members somewhere else that where you are and ask them to watch and see that the audio and video is received well and flows right.
Webinar broadcast audio and video. While today you can actually broadcast in your webinar both the slideshow presentation and video, most people rather not make a webinar with the audience actually seeing them.
That is perfectly fine.
Some of our best webinars are actually the ones without the audience actually seeing us.
But you shouldn’t just have a blank screen with the name of the webinar. It is boring, you are going to lose your attendees attention and they are likely to leave the webinar as you’re having it.
It is recommended to build a slideshow presentation, something simple, yet powerful with not a lot of text. Don’t put a text and just read it – have bullet points on screen (this is one of the benefits of webinars where you can actually have notes in your hands with more things you want to talk about… just make sure you don’t read it from the paper, use them as reference).
There are many webinar software both free and paid, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The reason I recommend it for you right now as you want to make money and you want to use a powerful software that can support your needs in the best way (after all you are aiming to make thousands and tens of thousands of dollars).
